the year that was

The pictures were taken during the SGV Fun Day at the ULTRA. I participated in the 3K run and we won! Of course! I ran, jogged and walked till my heart was about to busrt and till I was near crying! It was fun! ahihihi.

I'm going home to Cotabato tomorrow. My flight's at 5am for Davao City. And I am just so excited!!!

Today's my last day at the office--for the year 2006.

In brief, the year 2006 had been a wonderful year for me. I have learned so much and become a better and stronger person!

Welcome year 2007!

I am going to take a hiatus from blogging for the meantime and will concentrate all my energy at home. I've got lots of exiciting stuff to do!!! I missed my room. I can't wait to see all my girlie stuff and all my collections again.

Well, until next year!

Merry Christmas to all of us and a prosperous new year!

BUrnik Christmas Party 2006 – A Reunion

It’s a priceless thing in life to belong in a special kind of group. A group bounded together by friendship, compelled collectively by challenges, hardships and triumphs of the Accountancy course and the very memorable CPA Board Exams.

Being part of the Burnik Society, SU Accountancy Class 2004 will always be one of my greatest joys in life.

After a long time, finally the Burnik had once again had a get together party. This time to celebrate Christmas and E’s birthday party. Everybody had a blast. The food was great! Seafoods at the Macapagal Seaside were the best! Music One, the karaoke place, was a delight and very elegant.

And of course the people! We were all sinfully gorgeous =) Two years after the CPA Board and everyone had already achieved and accomplished so much. I am very proud of what we have become guys!

Cheers to all of us!

Where ever life may bring us in the future, I am confident that the Silliman spirit will always bring us together. God luck and God speed to all of us =)

vacation leave

FIFTEEN (15) days?! Whahahaha! Yes, believe it! 15 glorious days of vacation leave!

My bosses, after all their litany, threats and comments, were not able to stop me from taking a Christmas Holiday Leave. Of course they can’t stop me, it’s my basic right. Whew! I am so excited and full of anticipation. I am so full of plans on how to spend my vacation =)

opportunities

Opportunities available to our lifetime are so numerous its infinite! Some have come to pass or snobbed and few are grabbed and taken advantage of. Whatever may have happen to those opportunities, it always bring mixed emotions-happiness, excitement, tension and anticipation. Indeed, its very emotionally draining.

I was not surprised but I was disappointed and a little sad when it was confirmed I am not going to C. I have hoped and of course was extremely excited when I was earlier considered to be sent to that other world. I may be sad, but its okay, God always has reasons why things don’t happen the way you want it to.

It should have been an opportunity of a lifetime but its not for me. And as always, I am grateful to the Almighty for at least the Bosses even considered me to handle that resposibility =)

the old happy times

Summer 2006: The Burnik Society at All Hands Beach Resort, Subic.

beyond offense

To be happy is a choice. To be sad is also a choice. To be in a bad mood is definitely a choice. To be offended is beyond my comprehension.

Call me sensitive and touchy but I was really offended by his email! I thought I knew him but I was dead wrong. I do not know what is happening to him but he’s changed. He’s no longer the old thoughtful and enthusiastic college classmate I used to know. I’m so sad for him, really sad.

As for me, maybe I am just over reacting because I did not see the sarcasm coming... especially not from him. But maybe I am not. And it was really his intention to make a point.

I’m having second thoughts on whether to or not to join the Burnik Christmas party. Whatever the decision would be…MERRY CHRISTMAS to all the Burniks! I’m missing all of you guys!

The morning is beautiful and I refuse to be affected by his offensive email! =)

weight gain

I've gained a lot of weight lately and I'm trying my best to loose as much as I can before the holidays.

I was born to a family who loves to eat and food has and will always be my passion. That is why controlling all my urges to eat is really hard but I have to--for my own sake. It’s so frustrating. I call it deprivation. But of course I am just being melodramatic. Be realistic!

Being assigned to a lot of out-of-town engagements made it more difficult for me to control the urges to indulge. Food, merienda, everything is just so unlimited its making me cry. Please have mercy on my self-esteem, I have to be “sexy” =)

At the end of the day and despite all of my worries of becoming gigantic, it’s my happiness, fulfillment and self-satisfaction that would always matter. I would always eat because it gives me pleasure but of course...moderation is always the best policy =)

Happy Eating to all of us!

place of exile

To all the friends who have been wondering where this sacred place of my regular exile is, here it is -- Mariveles, Bataan. It’s a coastal town, a valley and most famous for the origin (Km 00) of the Death March.

unexpected delight

I have always been enamored by him. Why ever not?!!! He is smart, hardworking, full of integrity and confident. He is not the ruggedly handsome cowboy of my childhood fantasy rather the boyish, refined and impecably well manered type. He's one of the characters that made my college life a certified hit, musing over past memories of him always bring a lot of delight and smiles =) (Note: Heartacheswerelongforgotten).

I was with him last night. We've accidentally bumped into each other at Ayala. I haven't seen him for quite sometime and I was really ecstatic upon seeing him. He's still gorgeous and the same old him-funny, accomodating and full of life. But he has matured and become more serious with life. I miss his company and talking to him.

I was at a dead end of my emotions for the past days now. But by just being with him even for a short time brought me to an unexpected euphoric state. I was definitely without a doubt in high spirits. Very foolish me for having those feelings but what the heck... I am happy...

happiness, indifference, over-involvement

I haven't accomplished anything for today and I feel worthless, but I just dont care =( I do not know what is happenning to me. I have always been inspired and driven to learn and to get involve but it just came to a point that I've lost the energy to continue. I feel so guilty for not doing all the things I am supposed to do. Alarming because inspite of the guilt I am so indifferent.

I already have lots of pending tasks and deliverables, but still, I dont want to work. My mind, my hands and the very soul of my being are not in harmony. My mind says I have to work because it is the right thing to do, my hands are all over my laptop, pounding on the keyboard but at a lost... and my soul. My poor soul, is it dead? Is it tired? Bored? Or just being lazy? I do not know anymore... I'm going nuts!

I have lots of tasks to do and I must finish it. A lot of people are watching me, the bosses expect me to perform beyond their expectations. Pressure? I havent felt it. Is it a good thing? Definitely yes, but I guess not. There is a saying 'Only fools are not afraid'. Then, I must be a fool.

birthday wish

Few more days and I’m a year older.

A year full of challenges, fun and laughter, adventures and miseries have passed. What have I become? I’m not sure. I just want to sleep at the moment. In fact, sleep is occupying every bit of my sanity, being and consciousness. I badly want to fall into that deep slumber where I can just wake up anytime of the day and feel no guilt for being so damn slothful.

My wish for my birthday is to have a day full of sleep and nothing to do. Sunday does not count. I want one full day during the weekdays, I prefer it to be a Monday.

Oh, every bit of me is craving for a vacation. Haven’t had one since I joined the firm.

on the verge of lunacy

“Like zombies, half dead and half awake, is what I am. Truly, just the slave of some other foreign being, a spirit of some kind, a definitive consciousness which I find myself disappearing into every time this life piles up so high, I could barely see what’s before me.”

This is me talking in the gravest, most disparaging self-deprecation imaginable. Sounds as though I’m on the brink of losing my senses, doesn't it? [laughs] And it interests me more than anything at the moment, just how OA I can allow myself to be. ILAVEHT! =)

I'm back at the mountains of Bataan PEZA, at least its a coastal town I can see the sea and the ocean. Just refreshing.

I love my work, i love my work, i love my work, i love my work, i love my work.

aaarrrggghh! im beginning to not like her. i wont use the word 'hate' because it is such a strong word and she doesnt deserve a strong word because she is sooo trivial. so trivial that i refuse to discuss her further.

beautiful monday morning

i woke up with a very happy and positive disposition =) i slept late last night but had a rejuvenating sleep in the afternoon. i love life! im just so happy with everything going on around me. i've learned how not to make my work a burden and a problem. anyway, it wont go away. theyre here to stay as long as i chose to live a meaningful life.

good to be back in the civlized world! i never expected until now i will miss the office! oh, how i missed the office atmosphere--my area, jamie, vetto, bosses melvin, idol and ecp and the rest of the goodlooking gals and guys at 8th-1 =), the bosses, everything!

after weeks of staying at the PEZA of mariveles, bataan, i am gladly and with open arms welcoming all the pressures and hassles of being at the office. i missed the adrenalin rush and the fun of 'chikka-ing' to my officemates.

its a sunday and im stuck with my IFRS wbls

We are not what we know but what we are willing to learn.

Deadline for my completion of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) web based learnings (wbls) is on wednesday!! I'm totally freaked out. How am I gonna finnish all of those? I still have plenty of work to do for my current audit client but I also need to be IFRS accredited before November 15 or else im done.

I don't want to be going nuts in the coming days and so I have to use my sweet precious Sunday afternoon to complete the remaining 16 lessons. Each lesson would take about 3 hours and an online exam will follow. I have to pass the exam or else I have to complete the whole lesson all over again. Good Luck to me!!!

I have been missing a lot of movies lately. I am very sad, sad indeed.

A Eulogy of Roaches
By Bienvenido Lumbera

Blessed are the cockroaches.
In this country they are
the citizens who last.
They need no police
to promulgate their peace
because they tolerate
each other's smell or greed.

Friends to dark and filth,
they do not choose their meat.
Although they neither sow
nor reap, a daily feast
is laid for them in rooms
and kitchens for their pick.

The roaches do not spin
and neither do they weave.
But note the russet coat
the sluggards wear: clothed
at birth, roaches require
no roachy charity.

They settle where they wish
and have no rent to pay.
Eviction is a word
quite menacing to them
who do not have to own
their dingy crack of wall

Not knowing dearth or taxes,
they increase and multiply.
Survival is assured
even the jobless roach;
his opportunities
pile up where garbage grows.

Dying is brief and cheap
and thus cannot affright.
A whiff of toxic mist,
an agile heel, a stick
--the swift descent of pain
is also final death.

I have to post the poem. I just have to. It’s the harsh reality of today and I can’t help but feel sorry for my country.

We are indeed a country facing many challenges but there is hope. I’ve always believe in the Filipino people. Behind the widespread apathy of the society are the industrious and hard working citizens building a quality life and making a difference in their own little way.

Mabuhay ang pinoy!

THE LOSER’S CREED
(From Francis Kong’s The Early Bird Catches the Worm but the Second Mouse Gets the Cheese)

Here are the 13 principles you need to embrace if you want to be a loser in life.

If it feels good…do it!
Never learn from the past, never plan for the future.
Never take responsibility and never take a stand.
Never show up on time and never commit to anything.
If a commitment is mistakenly made, do not follow through on it.
Always take the easy way out… and whenever possible…make an excuse.
Play it safe.
When in doubt…bail out.
When the going gets tough…retreat.
If at first you don’t succeed…quit.
Expect to reap without sowing and succeed without risk.
Expect something for nothing, and expect to grow without effort.
React to everything.

Abide by these and you’ll surely wind up on the losing end.

Just like everyone else, you need a vision and a mission statement.

The losers say:

Our vision is, “It can’t be done.”
Our mission is, “Coulda, Woulda, Shouda.”
Our motto is, “I, Myself and Me.”
Our mascot is the scapegoat.
Our only principle is never act on principle.
Our only convictions are for crimes we refuse to acknowledge.
We are always quick to speak, quick to judge and slow to hear.
We harbor bitterness, never forgive, and never, EVER say we’re sorry.
We are eternal pessimists, living for the weekend, and looking to retirement. Our mentor is the television.

And still more…

Don’t read books. Get along with other losers. (Birds of the same feather are the same birds.)
Be pessimistic. Look at the world as a hopeless place. Look at your life as a hopeless case.
Be religious but don’t be righteous.
Focus only on money.
Never listen to advice and don’t allow anyone to teach you.
Be critical but never accept criticisms.
Don’t be faithful to your wife.
Lie to your kids.
Drink, eat and be merry for tomorrow you die.
These embody the basic philosophy of the loser.

Every idea mentioned here is in direct opposition to biblical principles specifically designed to empower one against becoming a loser in life.

St. Paul in the New Testament tells us, “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win…Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor’s crown unless he competes according to the rules.”

And so the principle becomes simple. Follow the word of God (the rules of right living) and be subject to the God of the Word, and only then will you find yourself a winner. And this uncomplicated principle makes up (instead of the Loser’s Creed) the whole of the WINNER’S CREED.
